Polish State Archives Contact List

It’s great that so many records in Poland are being scanned and put online for everyone to access, but sometimes it’s necessary to contact an archive directly. This table lists all the locations of the Polish State Archives that I have been able to find, and includes their physical address, phone number (click to dial from a mobile phone), e-mail, web site, a link to the branch description, a link to the list of records in that archive, and a facebook page if present.

Sometimes branch offices of a larger archive do not have their own web sites or pages, so in those case look for the main branch if you want a web site. The list of archival records available is from the newer szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl site (with a link marked ‘old’ that will go to the older szukajwarchiwach.pl site), and as I mentioned in my article Changes at the Polish State Archives, while that site shows if there are scans available, it does not show the scans from at least four archives, so if you see zero scans for an archive, you should double-check if it’s one of those archives. The description of the archive also comes from szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl and should also have most of the contact information for the archive if this page is out of date.

Note that when viewing this table on a mobile phone, you may need to rotate the phone in order to see the whole table.

  1. I noticed that archive #9, what was the Malbork branch office of the State Archives in Elbląg (Archiwum Państwowe w Elblągu z siedzibą w Malborku), is now its own archive, the State Archive of Malbork. It’s the same code, same address, same phone number, etc. only the e-mail address and web site have changed. I’ve corrected that in the table.

  2. I’ve updated the whole list with links to the new szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl site. Description and Records links now go to the new site, although I’ve included the old link for Description to the szukajwarchiwach.pl site with the (old) link. I didn’t add the old records link, but you can get to that by clicking on the (old) link and then selecting the Resources tab.

I’ve also added twenty more archives, nine of which have no archive code that I could find. Eighteen of the twenty archives had no information on the old site (so there is no link to the old site for those). For the most part these are university and Christian denominational archives. Most of these do not have records scanned on the site, and most do not even list the record collections, but I’m including them so this table is as complete as possible.
